borgata 2005

TFT Notes: Given the location, lots of references to Bruce Springsteen – from Ed’s preset covering Bruce’s “Atlantic City” (from Bruce’s Nebraska, which he said used to play a lot “when I was a kid” but hadn’t played since then), to Ed singing lead on Bruce’s “Promised Land” with Sleater-Kinney, to a brand new, previously unplayed Pearl Jam song which was a strong, plaintive ballad called “Gone” and was reminiscent of early, acoustic Springsteen (lyrics included “a tank of gas feels like money in the bank” and a big chorus of “I’m gone!”).

Ed pre-set: Atlantic City
set: Present Tense, Do The Evolution, Save You, Insignificance, Given To Fly, Dissident, Even Flow, Leatherman, Immortality, Lukin, Not For You/(Modern Girl), Wishlist, Don’t Gimme No Lip, Breath, State of Love and Trust, Porch
first encore: Gone, Bee Girl, Harvest Moon, Nothingman, Once, Alive
second encore: Spin The Black Circle, Glorified G, U, Leaving Here, Rockin’ in the Free World

I was at both A.C./Borgata shows, front row… (stood next to Bob Saget one night!) They were 2 of the greatest PJ shows I’ve been to! Also, it was great to hear “Gone” played live for the first time ever, they day after Eddie wrote it! Such great sets, both nights!
