goof and i have been the proprietors of since 1998. then it was a website for our college band, now it’s our love letter to Pearl Jam fans. as the site has grown in the past few years, so have the costs of keeping the site running. goof and i are fortunate in that we’re not financially destitute. however, we have started looking into ways to stave off the increasing costs. we settled on two feasible options:

take donations
taking donations doesn’t seem like a terrible idea at first because it would allow you gremmies to contribute as you see fit. like the site? here’s $20. don’t like it? well screw you, i’m gonna download stuff anyway. what ends up happening is that before long, what we need and what we get don’t match. it’s inevitable. have you ever seen the fundraiser telethons on PBS? they’re sad affairs which support great programming. people can contribute money to PBS at any time, but ordinarily don’t until there’s an incentive to. in the case of PBS, the channel might fold unless you donate to the cause. it’s at that moment that people pay attention. over the course of time, the process becomes a beg-a-thon.

merch (short for merchandise) is a way for us to bridge the cost gap while providing gremmies with something of value. be it a sticker or a t-shirt, goof and i think merch is a good way to give and get. for example, if we sold a sticker for $3 that cost us $1 to make, we have a $2 profit. multiply that by 100 stickers and just took in $200. that $200 profit goes a long way in covering costs. we can’t think of a better way to do it.

so, we made a poll. on the right-hand sidebar you’ll find the following question:

Would you be interested in Merch (stickers, t-shirts) from

-Yes, so long as the money went towards financing
-Yes, so long as the Merch was really cool and good quality.
-No. Don’t be greedy gremmie.

good and i don’t ask for much, but we would really appreciate it if you could vote.

        Dear Gremmie and Goof,
I think that this is a great idea. Pearl Jam fans know this site as a domain for ultra rare and high quality music. I support this idea. YOU ARE NOT BEING GREEDY!

      2. Helge says:

Yes, so long as the money went towards financing
Yes, so long as the Merch was really cool and good quality.

And, if I may add, as long as the Merch would be sporting the old surf-car-thingy and not this green-faced-whateveritis.

On a side note, why not put a “donate” button anyway? If I don’t like your merch, I could still throw some money your way…

As Helge said, add a donate button anyway. People often have a few quid (or bucks for you Stateside types) spare in their paypal account and if they’re like me, they should feel greatly indebted to you guys. I know you don’t want to be paid for your passion, but I’d feel much better about helping in a small way.

Hell yes the stickers are a great idea. The initial investment is simple. No hassle keeping the inventory versus shirts of various sizes.

I’ll be grabbing a few stickers if you go that route.

      6. Stickman says:

I say a big thumbs up to both of these:

-Yes, so long as the money went towards financing
-Yes, so long as the Merch was really cool and good quality.

Also why not put a link somewhere on the homepage where people can click onto and make a financial donation via pay-pal or something. If I see a link on this site for that, I will donate. I bet a bunch of others will too!
