Sounds Smart

I am far enough out of the proverbial forest that I can finally tell all you gremmies I have started a new job at Barclays Capital in the Metlife building above Grand Central Station. Since 2.12.07 I have been in the employ of the pre-eminent English Bank. It’s two blocks away from my once and former employer, Bear Stearns. I’d recap the trail, but it would bore you suffice to say that my commute is 5 minutes shorter, I now have a pretty title, and a prettier paycheck.

Gremmie’s Noisebucket, the band not the bucket that belongs to me, played to a full house in the tap room at the Knitting Factory on Thursday, 2.8.07. We opened with a new and, as of yet, unfinished song called “the only bar on south end avenue”.  For more setlist details, go here. Pictures are here. Many of my former co-workers made an appearance, much to my delight. Matt Hughart, my pal and former partner at Bear made the show his fifth gOuting (g), which is like a regular outing only it’s coated with a shiny layer of gremmie and filled with gFilling (g). Also, GNB has been asked to participate in this year’s Jammy Awards hosted by Off Wall Street Jam on Friday the 13th in the rainy month of April because apparently when we play, gremmies turn up in droves. Anyway, I plan on donning a Jason Vorhees mask for the duration of the set; singing through the breath holes. “I Sing the Body Electric” will likely debut, and if I can arrange the pianos by then, so will a complete “the only bar on south end avenue”. I think the title is a little too long; which makes just about the second thing on my “persons” that is of dubious length.

Gremmies from the isle of Hawaii (27 as of last month) will be pleased to know that I have recently purchased a Martin S-O ukelele. This fretted, 4 stringed instrument whose name translates in Hawaiin to “jumping flea” looks like this:

This miniature slice of fried gold is made entirely of pure mahagony which immediately makes me think of the the clubhouse in Caddyshack. I can see Ty playing a uke. Ba na na na na… Anyway, the best ukes are made entirely from koa, but also cost around 5 large. So in the interest of paying my rent this month I opted for the maginally cheaper model.
