Irving Plaza - Super Duper Secret Show
Hello Gremmies. Matt M has left his office and is heading over to meet up with the gang for an Irving Plaza pre-show party. I’ll bet it’s going to be a hoot. I’m just the behind-the-scenes nerd. And yes, I’m jealous.
Let me tell you how this is going to work tonight. Matt M will be posting pictures throughout the night: pre show, in-show, and post-show.
Unlike ‘This American Dream: A Gremmie Rock-umentary’, the images will not be accompanied by commentary (for the most part) in real time… instead, we’ll post the images so you can live vicariously through someone who’s had one hell of a Pearl Jam-ified week, and then after all is said and done tonight, Matt M will post a recap of the night’s event to match the images.
So, throughout the night, you’ll want to look here for images from the Super Duper Secret Irving Plaza Pearl Jam Show:

You know…”15 million hands upraised and open towards the sky….”
Or something.

We’re back!!!!!! What a phenomenal show. For sure worth the 38 hour wait at Tower Records! It looks like that while we had gremmie.net setup for updates, I was simply not able to post the setlist directly from the floor of Irving Plaza. Sorry to eveyone who waited during the show! The setlist is now up, though a bit out of order. You try typing the words “Army Reserve” when you have a sweaty crowd moving back and forth like breaking waves! They for sure opened with WWS, the 1st Encore was definitely Man of the Hour , State of Love & Trust, Porch, and the 2nd Encore was Alive and Ledbetter.

The venue was tight and tiny. Reminiscent of the early days when Pearl Jam packed small clubs like CBGB’s and everyone in the crowd was warring for centimeters. Ed had a few funny things to say about New Yorkers during the show. Like when people in New York say hello they do it by saying “Hey Ed! Fuck you man!” Haahahaha. After Man of the Hour, Ed gave the crowd a choice of either “a campfire version of Betterman or State of Love & Trust. The crowd erupted with cheers for State of Love & Trust and they went right into it! Drew Barrymore, Fabrizio Moretti, Flea, Mary-Kate Olsen, Giselle Bundchen, Tim Robbins, Susan Saradon, the lead singer from Anthrax, and Ed’s wife (Jill) and daughter (Olivia) were all there.

During the end of Porch Ed stood up at the front of the stage on the barrier that separated the stage from the crowd and sang it out till the end. Fans rushed the spot he was standing and if you could see it was wonderful. Reminded this gremmie of Wishlist - “!5 million hands upraised….and up to Eddie Vedder…”. There were a handful of crowd surfers too along with songs like Comatose and Do the Evolution. True to form, Ed asked for the house lights be turned on for Ledbetter.

Was that the even flow video we were in? If not, i swear it was at least my freshman year in high school back in ‘92, except everyone knows every song and we are more well behaved now than back in the day. It seemed like we collectively wouldnt have minded moshing a bit, but it never really broke out. It was nice to see a few surfers though. Thanx guys, its a give give relationship, the band and us…..moreso than most bands. Thanx PJ, thanx you guys, and i’ll see some of you in Albany, Hartford and the boston shows. keep rockin’……

That’s great, thanks for taking the time to do that, prob a once in a lifetime experience. Did Ed crowdsurf at all? Sometime told me that he did.

yeah, ed kind of fell into the crowd. that blue-lit picture of his face is not in close-up. that is him being held up by fans right in front of me and i just snapped it right there. really happy i got that one.

Hey Matt,
That’s me and my buddy front and center of the crowd shot you have posted there - we’re looking thoroughly unenthused with the Japanese sci-fi that was playing, but hey…
Nice site, and thanks for sharing the photos with those of us who didn’t bring a camera in.
